Heart Rate Variability (HRV)
(1 Products)What is HRV?
HRV stands for heart rate variability and describes the variation in time between each heartbeat. Although the heart is often perceived as smooth and rhythmic, it is normal for there to be small variations from beat to beat. This variation is controlled by the autonomic nervous system, which regulates important functions in the body such as pulse, breathing, blood pressure, digestion and stress response.
The autonomic nervous system is often divided into two main parts: the sympathetic nervous system, which is activated by stress and preparedness, and the parasympathetic nervous system, which is associated with rest, recovery and recovery. HRV provides insight into the interaction between these systems and is often used as a non-invasive way to assess balance, stress and recovery.
In general, low HRV can be associated with increased stress or lower adaptability, while higher HRV is often associated with better flexibility and a more balanced regulation of the nervous system. HRV is therefore used by many as a useful tool to get a broader picture of the body's response to physical and mental stress, and as an indicator of general function and recovery.
