• The H2 molecule is the smallest in the universe, which allows it to pass cell membranes (including the blood-brain barrier) and penetrate the mitochondria. The gas has no polarity, so it does not depend on transport proteins to penetrate the cell. This gives H2 a superior bioavailability.
• H2 reacts easily with the toxic hydroxyl radical - the most reactive and oxidative radical in the body - turning it into harmless water.
