Nattokinase – Nattiase® – 2000 FU / 100 mg – Fermented soybean extract – Support for normal circulation

Nattokinase is a natural enzyme extracted from traditional Japanese natto – soybeans fermented with the bacterium Bacillus subtilis var. night. Natto has been part of the Japanese diet for over 1,000 years and is known both as a food and as a source of concentrated, natural nutrients. This product contains Nattiase®, a world-leading, radiation-free nattokinase ingredient type from fermented soybean extract, standardized to 2000 fibrinolytic units (FU) per capsule. The enzyme is encapsulated in stomach acid-resistant DRcaps™ capsules, which have been developed to release the contents further down the digestive tract. The product is 100% vegan, with no fillers, binders or artificial additives, and is manufactured in the UK to GMP standards. Nattokinase is used by many adults who want a plant-based enzyme supplement as part of daily support for normal circulation and general well-being. The manufacturer also supports tree planting projects through Ecology, so that a tree is planted for every order.

Benefits and health effects

There are several human studies and review articles that have examined nattokinase in connection with factors such as blood flow, blood pressure and coagulation-related markers, but there are no EFSA-approved health claims for nattokinase specifically. The product should therefore be understood as a dietary supplement for general health and well-being, not as treatment or prevention of disease. Within these frameworks, the following properties and potential benefits can be described based on research and biochemical mode of action:

• Nattokinase is a proteolytic enzyme that can help support the body's own mechanisms to maintain normal blood flow by breaking down proteins such as fibrin in laboratory and animal models
• Studies in humans have shown that nattokinase can affect markers of coagulation and fibrinolytic activity, such as fibrinogen and selected coagulation factors, which is interpreted as supporting normal circulatory physiology in healthy adults
• Clinical studies have examined nattokinase in connection with parameters such as blood pressure and certain cardiometabolic risk factors, but the results are variable, and there is no basis for medical claims - nevertheless, the findings suggest that nattokinase may be relevant as part of a holistic lifestyle that also includes diet, activity and follow-up with a doctor
• Nattokinase from fermented soybean extract additionally provides a supplement from a traditional food (natto) which in observational studies has been linked to good cardiovascular health in Japanese populations, without being able to conclude about a causal relationship
• Many user experiences describe a subjective experience of "lighter" legs, better comfort when sitting still and general well-being when nattokinase is included as part of a healthy lifestyle - these are individual experiences and not documented health claims

Top 2 main features and one lesser known effect

Based on published research and overview articles (without these being approved health claims), there are three areas in particular that are highlighted in the specialist literature:

• Support for normal blood flow and circulation
Clinical studies have shown that nattokinase can affect fibrinolytic markers in humans, including by reducing levels of fibrinogen and selected coagulation factors, which is considered relevant to normal blood fluidity and circulatory physiology.PubMed+1

• Examined in connection with normal blood pressure values
Randomized, controlled trials have investigated nattokinase in adults with mildly elevated blood pressure values and reported moderate reductions in mean blood pressure compared to placebo.PubMed+1 These findings are interpreted as interesting, but are not grounds for claiming that a dietary supplement treats high blood pressure.

• Lesser known effect - research into neurobiological and ageing-related mechanisms
Recent laboratory and animal studies have looked at nattokinase in connection with proteins that can form deposits in tissues (for example in the brain) and other aging-related mechanisms.MDPI+1 This is early, experimental research that cannot be transferred directly to humans, but which makes nattokinase interesting in further research into healthy aging and the cellular environment.
