Research has shown that the compounds in milk thistle – isosilybin, silibinin and silymarin – can protect against prostate cancer. Silibinin and silymarin are strong antioxidants that inhibit the growth of cancer cells and DNA synthesis. Animal studies have shown that silibinin has anticancer effects on advanced forms of prostate cancer cells, resulting in reduced cell proliferation and increased cancer cell apoptosis.
