Man as an electromagnetic being
How frequencies and fields shape health - for better or for worse
The body is more than biochemistry. Beneath hormones, enzymes and nutrients lies an equally fundamental layer: a living electrical system. Each cell maintains a voltage difference across the membrane. Nerves send impulses at up to 120 meters per second. The heart generates a measurable electromagnetic field. At the same time, we live in an artificial electromagnetic landscape that no previous generation has known - and we have access to therapeutic frequencies that can support the body's own signals.
This article brings together what is currently well documented, what is promising but unfinished, and what is still hypothesis. The goal is neither fear nor uncritical excitement. The aim is to understand man as an electromagnetic being - and to use that understanding with integrity.
- Life is electric. The cell membrane's resting potential, the heart's field and the brain's rhythms are standard physiology – not alternative medicine.
- Natural light is the strongest documented "frequency measure" in everyday life. Morning light sets the circadian rhythm; evening light disturbs it.
- Controlled therapeutic fields (PEMF, PBM, TMS) have specific, approved or promising applications. It is something other than background noise from wireless technology.
1. The body's electrical foundation
That the body is electric is textbook physiology. A typical cell maintains a transmembrane potential of about −70 millivolts using ion pumps that move sodium, potassium, calcium, and chloride. When the potential changes abruptly, an action potential occurs. This is how muscles contract, thoughts are formed and the heart beats in rhythm. ECG and EEG are not theories – they are everyday hospital tools.


What has changed in the last two decades is the realization that bioelectricity is not just a nervous system phenomenon. All cells - even those that are not "excitable" - have a membrane potential. This potential is an instructive signal: it affects gene expression, cell division, migration and how tissues organize.
Bioelectricity as an overall signal
At Tufts University, Michael Levin and colleagues have shown that bioelectric patterns control embryo development, regeneration and, in animal models, also tumor-like conditions. Bioelectricity is now described as a universal, multifaceted signaling system – just as central as genetics and biochemistry, but on a different organizational level. A cell "knows" not only which genes it has. It also reads the electrical neighborhood.
Cancer cells are consistently more depolarized than healthy cells. Computer models, including Carvalho's work (2021) and more recent top-down models from Cervera, Levin and Mafe (2025), show that a depolarization wave can propagate through tissue and drive neighboring cells towards a more cancer-like state. Equally important: the models allow for the condition to be reversed if ion pumps, gap junctions or conductivity are changed so that the tissue is repolarised. This is not clinical cancer treatment today. It is a rapidly growing field of research – including a separate NCI conference on cancer bioelectricity in 2024.
Already in the 19th century, Carlo Matteucci measured "injury currents" from damaged tissue. Robert O. Becker documented that regenerating salamanders undergo an electrical sequence in which the polarity reverses as healing takes over. Harold Burr described a measurable "L-field" around the organism. Abraham Liboff summarized this in 2004: organisms express systematic electrical changes when stressed, and seek healing via endogenous repair currents – or equivalent external currents. When the organism is described as an electromagnetic entity, electromagnetic therapy becomes the most direct way to restore the normal state of the field.
Bone tissue provides an everyday example. Collagen is piezoelectric: mechanical stress is converted into electrical signals that control whether cells build or break down bone. Without this stimulation – as with astronauts in weightlessness – bone mass falls rapidly. Electricity is not an addition to physiology. It is part of how tissue knows what to do.
2. The heart, the brain and the invisible field

The body generates measurable electromagnetic fields. The heart is the strongest source; the brain the most complex.
The heart is the body's most powerful electrical generator. Each stroke creates a field that can be measured outside the body, significantly stronger than that of the brain. This is established electrophysiology and the basis of the ECG. The brain's field is measured with EEG. Muscle activity with EMG. This is clinical everyday life.
From here it is tempting to jump to notions that the heart's field "controls space" or transmits emotions from a distance. Research on heart rate variability (HRV) clearly shows that breathing, sleep and emotions change the rhythm - and that higher HRV is associated with better autonomic flexibility. HeartMath and similar communities have explored "coherence", but the most far-reaching claims are ahead of what is rigorously documented.
What we can safely say: the heart and brain are real, measurable electrical organs. Their rhythms are affected by light, breathing, stress and sleep. How far the fields reach in a biologically significant sense outside the body is still an open question. For Uno Vita, the point is still clear: health is also rhythm, coherence and signal integrity – not just chemical balance.
3. The body emits light: biophotons

Living cells emit ultra-weak light. The phenomenon is measurable. The biological role of communication is still under exploration.

All living organisms emit ultra-weak light - ultra-weak photon emission (UPE), often called biophotons. This is not bioluminescence as in luminescent algae. They are extremely weak photons that arise as a by-product of metabolism, particularly reactive oxygen compounds in the mitochondria. The phenomenon is real and measurable with sensitive detectors.
Fritz-Albert Popp argued that the emission carries information and reflects the state of the organism. More recent reviews (2024) confirm that UPE changes with oxidative stress, aging and disease, and that the pattern follows biological rhythms. In 2025, Canada's National Research Council is developing technology to use UPE as a possible early marker for disease, including cancer. A 2025 study showed that photobiomodulation changed the biophoton output particularly in stressed cells – healthy cells responded less.
The more honest distinction is this: that cells glow is a fact. That light is a full-fledged intercellular communication system on a quantum level is an active hypothesis - not an established textbook. For Uno Vita's philosophy, however, the insight is valuable: the body both reacts to light and produces light. Information in the form of frequency and coherence can be as biologically relevant as the amount of energy.
4. The natural frequencies we are designed for
Man did not develop in an electromagnetic vacuum. We are shaped by sunlight, the Earth's magnetic field and a weak, constant background signal in the atmosphere. Three of these deserve their own mention - with different levels of evidence.
Sunlight and circadian rhythm – the strongest finding

Light, especially morning light, is the most important "zeitgeber". Intrinsically photosensitive ganglion cells in the retina send signals to the brain's internal clock (SCN), which controls when melatonin is inhibited and when it is released. Systematic overviews show that morning light improves sleep timing, while evening light – especially blue screen light – delays melatonin and shifts the circadian rhythm. More recent work also links good lighting hygiene to metabolic and cardiovascular markers.
An important additional finding: near-infrared light, which makes up a large part of sunlight, can increase local melatonin production in tissues – independently of the pineal gland. Daylight is therefore more than "non-darkness". It is a full-spectrum signal that both sets the clock and supports the cells' energy turnover. If one should take one measure from this article, it is this: get morning light in the eyes, and dim bright artificial light late at night.
Earthing – safe, pleasant, for now

The idea is that the earth's crust is a reservoir of free electrons, and that direct skin contact can neutralize free radicals, normalize cortisol rhythm, reduce inflammation and improve sleep. Early studies (Ghaly and Teplitz 2004, Chevalier et al.) reported such effects, including increased zeta potential on red blood cells.
Uno Vita's more honest line: go barefoot in nature. It's free, safe for most people, and probably stress-relieving regardless of the mechanism. The specific claims about "electron antioxidant" are labeled as promising hypothesis, not as proven clinical. People with pacemakers or implanted electronics should be careful with indoor grounding mats.
Schumann Resonance – Established Physics, Uncertain Medicine

Between the Earth's surface and the ionosphere lies an electromagnetic cavity driven by global lightning activity. The fundamental frequency is approximately 7.83 Hz, with overtones around 14, 20 and 26 Hz. This is established geophysics and is used to study lightning and the ionosphere.
What is striking is the spectral overlap with the brain's theta and alpha bands. Studies have shown periodic coherence between the Schumann spectrum and QEEG in some individuals. It's fascinating physics. It is not the same as "7.83 Hz healing", that we "need" a device that plays the tone, or that modern buildings "cut us off" in a clinically proven way.
The recommendation: enjoy the phenomenon as a window into the fact that we have evolved in a pulsating electromagnetic environment. Do not present Schumann therapy as documented treatment. No approved medical device relies on this mechanism alone.
5. The modern electromagnetic landscape

Same spectrum, two outcomes: natural and therapeutic fields on the one hand, chaotic artificial noise on the other. Dose, frequency and context decide.
The core question most people ask: are mobile, 5G, Wi-Fi and masters harming us? The answer is more nuanced than both the most concerned and the most dismissive voices give the impression.
This is how the authorities read the evidence
In 2011, IARC classified radiofrequency EMF as "possible carcinogen" (group 2B). ICNIRP 2020, which also covers 5G, is based on the fact that the only reliably established biological effect of RF at the relevant levels is tissue heating, with large safety margins.
A WHO-commissioned systematic review of human observational studies (Karipidis et al. 2024) concluded with moderate certainty that regular mobile phone use probably does not increase the risk of glioma, meningioma and several other tumours. The COSMOS cohort (2024) also did not find an increased brain tumor risk linked to the duration of mobile phone use.
Why the case is still not closed
The same WHO review has faced harsh, published criticism. ICBE-EMF and several independent researchers point to methodological choices, short latency in several cohorts, weighting of studies with rough exposure classification, and that several authors are connected to ICNIRP – the body whose limit values the review supports in practice. A 2025 commentary in Environmental Health claims that the reviews cannot be used as "proof of safety".
Animal studies further complicate the picture. The NTP studies and the Ramazzini work reported an increased incidence of certain tumors at high RF levels. Later syntheses are divided in how these should be weighted. At the same time, field measurements from several countries show a consistent pattern: measured levels around masts and in urban areas are typically fractions of one percent of the ICNIRP limit.
Symptom studies near masters have found more headaches, sleep problems and memory problems in those who live closest. These are almost without exception cross-sectional studies with self-reporting, without blinding and with weak control for worry, noise, air quality and socioeconomics.
Electrohypersensitivity
Many people experience EHS: headaches, fatigue, difficulty concentrating and sleep problems they associate with EMF. The WHO and more recent double-blind syntheses find that the symptoms are real and often disabling, but that the participants consistently do not distinguish real from sham exposure better than chance.
Respect and good follow-up are nevertheless an ethical requirement. Reducing unnecessary close exposure, better sleep and light hygiene and taking the symptoms seriously makes sense - regardless of which mechanism turns out to dominate.

6. When the right frequency supports the body
If the body is a bioelectrical system, it is logical that controlled, dosed fields can support repair. Here, the distinction between documented, promising and undocumented is crucial - both professionally and ethically. An overview of biofield units (Muehsam et al. 2015) provides a useful framework that still holds up.
Well documented or approved for specific areas of use
- PEMF for non-union fractures: FDA approved. The mechanisms include osteogenesis, ion transport and growth factors. Newer reviews (2024) support faster healing also in some fresh fractures.
- TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation): approved for treatment-resistant depression.
- Low threshold laser / LLLT for selected muscle and wound conditions.
- ECG, EEG, pacemaker and defibrillator: the clinical everyday life that proves that electromagnetism is already medicine.

Promising, and growing

Photobiomodulation (PBM) in the area of approx. 600–1000 nm is absorbed, among other things, by cytochrome c-oxidase in the mitochondria and can increase ATP, modulate NO and suppress inflammation. A competing 2023 hypothesis points to mitochondria-bound water as the primary photoacceptor—a sign that the mechanism is still debated even as clinical findings pile up.
An umbrella review from 2025 (15 meta-analyses, 204 RCTs, over 9000 participants) found significant effects for 12 outcomes, with moderate evidence certainty for pain in burning mouth, function in knee osteoarthritis, fatigue in fibromyalgia, hair density in androgenic alopecia and cognitive function. No outcome had a high degree of evidence certainty. The FDA has approved a red light device against dry AMD, and PBM is part of guidelines against oral mucositis after cancer treatment.
PEMF outside of non-union has a signal of pain relief and function in musculoskeletal disorders, but the protocols vary greatly. That's why Uno Vita refers to such technologies as support for well-being and specific, proven niches - not as universal "frequency cures".
Not scientifically supported as a clinical treatment
- Torsion fields, orgone energy and scalar waves as they are often marketed.
- Bioresonance where the effect model has not been established and the effect is not clear in controlled studies.
- Claims that a single device "zeroes" all frequencies in the body.
Uno Vita's basic philosophy – that the cell membrane's electrical balance is fundamental, and that the right informational energy can support the body's own processes – is rooted in bioelectrical physiology. It also obliges us to say where the evidence ends.
7. Electromagnetic hygiene in everyday life
Regardless of where you land in the RF debate, there are simple measures that both reduce unnecessary close exposure and strengthen the body's natural electrical rhythms. This is precautionary without a culture of fear.
- Get morning light in your eyes within about one hour of waking up. Strongest documented single measures.
- Dim strong blue light in the evening. Warmer lighting, screen-free hour before sleep.
- Keep your mobile phone away from your body at night. Airplane mode or other room reduces near field during sleep.
- Use a wired network where it is practical, especially in bedrooms and workplaces where you sit for long periods of time.
- Turn off the Wi-Fi router at night if the household can tolerate it. Simple and free.
- Walk barefoot on grass, sand or dirt when you can. Safe and stress-relieving, regardless of the final mechanism.
- Prioritize daylight and spending time in nature throughout the day - not just in the morning.
- Consider cumulative "transmitter density": many small transmitters in the same bedroom produce unnecessary nearby noise even if each source is legal.
- Seek professional guidance before PEMF, PBM or similar in case of pregnancy, serious illness or implanted electronics.
8. A deeper layer – not an alternative track
It is tempting to place this in "alternative medicine". That would be a category error. ECG is the standard heart diagnosis. The EEG is the standard neurology tool. Electrical leg stimulation is an approved treatment. TMS treats depression. Pacemakers and defibrillators save lives with electricity.
The electromagnetic perspective does not compete with biochemistry. It is the layer biochemistry operates within. Liboff put it strikingly: the chemical responses still occur, but in the future can be understood as accompanying changes in the electromagnetic state of the system.
This is Uno Vita's clinical and philosophical basis: the body as an electromagnetic system, health as electromagnetic balance, disease as electromagnetic dysregulation. Treatment is about supporting the body's own repair signals, restoring cell potential and removing unnecessary noise - from the inside with nutrition and lifestyle, from the outside with light, pulsed fields and evidence-based frequency support. Everything is frequency. Everything is energy. Much of what matters is informational energy. But the information must withstand meeting data.
Frequently asked questions
Is man really an electromagnetic being?
Yes, in the literal, physiological sense. Membrane potential, nerve impulses, ECG and EEG are not metaphors. What is being debated is how far we can extend the field as an explanation of health and illness beyond this core.
What the authorities say (and why)
The DSA (Directorate for Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety) updated this since 25 July 2025: based on overall research, expert committees and authorities consider that radio waves from wireless technology do not pose a health risk, as long as the levels are below the recommended limit values, and measurements show that the exposure is far below these values. The exposure from wireless technology is typically a few thousandths to a few hundredths of the limit value. This is in line with the WHO, ICNIRP, Health Canada and the US FDA, all of which have stated that normal exposure from mobile use and base stations, including 5G frequencies, is not expected to cause health damage.
The real counterarguments
This is where a serious, albeit small, research minority disagrees - and they have concrete objections:
1. The IARC classification is under revision, not terminated. In 2011, RF-EMF was classified as group 2B based on limited evidence for increased glioma risk in heavy users of mobile phones. In 2024, an advisory panel of experts to IARC recommended that radio frequency should be reassessed with high priority in the period 2025–2029, due to new cancer evidence from both humans and animal experiments. This means that the classification can actually change - in both directions.
2. Criticism that the limit values are only based on heating effect. The most cited counter-vote is ICBE-EMF (a panel formed by the advisers behind the "International EMF Scientist Appeal", over 240 scientists). In a peer-reviewed article in Environmental Health (2022), they argue that the FCC and ICNIRP have overlooked hundreds of studies that document harmful effects at exposure levels below the threshold value these agencies use, and call for an immediate moratorium on further 5G development until safety is documented. The core claim: the limit values assume that only tissue heating is harmful, while they believe that non-thermal effects (oxidative stress, DNA damage) have been documented far below this level.
3. Criticism of the process itself. Finland's Dariusz Leszczynski (University of Helsinki) has long called for a more open consensus debate, and points out that the number of studies specifically on RF-EMF from wireless communications is far lower than is often claimed - around 1,950, not "thousands". Other critics (among others Neil Cherry) have argued that the experts who sit in evaluation bodies such as ICNIRP often share the same basic view in advance, which makes real professional disagreement difficult to bring out - a competence/environmental point rather than a pure data point.
4. Recent animal studies. Experiments in 2024–2025, including at Tomsk State University, showed changes in brain tissue in rats under intensive irradiation, as well as increased markers for oxidative stress during long-term exposure in some animal experiments - but the researchers themselves stress that animal data cannot be easily transferred to humans due to differences in size and physiology.
Do red light therapy and PEMF work?
For specific indications: yes, with varying strength of evidence. PEMF for non-union and TMS for depression are among the strongest. PBM has growing support for wounds, certain pain conditions, hair and cognition, but the protocols are not standardized and the evidence is usually moderate. They are not universal miracle devices.
Do I have to ground myself to be healthy?
No. Contact with nature is valuable. The specific electrical mechanism has not been determined. Go out anyway.
Can Uno Vita products replace medical treatment?
No. The article and associated technologies are in support of wellness and evidence-based niches. Serious illness requires qualified healthcare personnel.
